Looking Ahead

At last summer seems to have arrived which means I can sit in the garden and do some hand sewing but not until after the Grand Prix today. This week I have been looking forward to the end of the year, I have made my cushion for the cushion raffle at Hamtunes Autumn Fayre in October and also a bag for my Aunt's 65th birthday in November I only hope I can keep the momentum going to be ready for Xmas early, doubt it as I always seem to push Xmas to the back of my mind till about 15th December!! The cushion pattern was in July's P & Q magazine it's called Cathedral Window with an Origami Twist.

A Grand Day Out (Wallace and Grommit)

Yesterday we went to Market Harborough, had a mooch round, what a lovely place that is, then we went onto Foxton Locks, wow, 40years living in Northamptonshire and this is the first time we have been there, (but not the last) what a feat of engineering those ten canal locks are, we were fascinated so it was a good day out and today I must do some housework then some sewing.

bookcover

Still with Anja Townrow I have done one of her bookcovers this week and I used loads of metallic threads and different stitches on my machine. So pleased because I had no problems with the metallic threads, hopefully I have cracked it now, Metallic needle in machine, loosen off top tension, use soft bobbin thread and put top thread in a cup behind machine instead of on spool, worked brilliantly for me. This week I am going to work on the cushion for H amtunes Autumn Fayre cushion raffle.

Anja Townrow

Anja Townrow

What a fantastic evening last night at Hamtune Quilters, we had a speaker, Anja Townrow, what a lovely lady, I think if she had talked all night we would have sat listening with our mouths open. Real down to earth lady, taught herself patchwork, had lots of ambitions and she got there.Among the photos the one of the swans is a project I want to do in the not to distant future, I bought the pattern so thats a start now I have to choose the fabrics. Also her book covers are superb, watch this space (not this week)

What a mess!!

Think I need to go back to teacher for refresher on how to set out posting, oh well all good fun

Positive/Negative

This week I have done two cushions, one is finished the other half finished, they are from Dilys Fronks pattern and by doing a stencil onto bondaweb then putting on to your fabric and cutting out you can then use the piece you have cut away, so have to be very careful when cutting out. I have done this method before a few years ago, the photos of the blue and black bell pulls. It is another method that I really do enjoy doing. Also this week our housegroup met at Margaret H's house most enjoyable day lovely lunch as usual, Tuesday committee meeting, bit heated at times I thought. On Wednesday morning Brian and I went to the cinema to see Senna, very moving film, sad as he was killed but gave a good insight into Formula One and Brian and myself are avid fans., then we went to lunch (two lunches out again this week and I think am out to lunch again tomorrow) when am going over to Weedon with Christine to a fabric sale then a visit to Bramble Patch and the other quilt shop at the shopping village down on th A5. Life is so busy when you are retired!!

Friday 8 July 2011

Had a fantastic day at Threads and Patches yesterday, There were seventeen of us and we were given six demonstrations in the morning, hand quilting, a super cushion (photo when I have made it) knitting ( have finished one scarf) card making, and a quick and easy way to do drunkards path, free sample kit with this. Every demo was so interesting and then we had a superb buffet lunch then it was time to shop and boy did we shop and came home really motivated, feel the need to shut myself in my workroom and just have a go at everything.

F.A.O. Diana

Had to abandon everything this morning to make the bookcover as it is Hamtune tonight and Diana will want to know if I have done it, if not why not. It is actually very quick and easy and is the first item now to go in the box for christmas gifts

what an idiot

I have just made the biggest mistake ever, if I was still at school I would be in detention for a year if I wasn't expelled first. I have deleted the last 25 postings to my blog, didn't realise that by deleting on the list of posts would actually delete from my blog, I could weep, and what makes it worse is it's Hamtune tonight and I really will have to suffer the wrath of Mrs. G, perhaps I'll go sick. What I am going to do is redo the post I put on this morning then just add some photos
